You know what the kids in the oncology ward wait for most, though a little less than their birthday? The day they are discharged from the hospital. Then the hospital volunteer supervisor's day begins with messages from the children: "Are you coming?", "Will there be balloons?", "Will I get a diploma?" Such day…
And again, Shakhtyorsk. And again, a home for disabled children with the most severe pathologies. 240 eyes looking at us inquisitively. We always prepare for this trip in advance (especially morally). When we look at the children there is an overwhelming sadness. This orphanage is home for all of them forever.
Here there is no line of potential adopters, and in a chamber of mercy, where lying children, practically silence. Here it would seem time, has stopped and it does not matter what program we have brought and how many gifts we have prepared.
It is that place, where very sharply you feel powerlessness. Not needed. That's what you can read in their eyes. And the repairs we have made do not seem enough, and no candy is not enough to dull the pain, which is frozen in the eyes of these children.... these eyes pierce through..... want to run away and do something. But alas, for many of them there is nothing that can be done. Unfortunately, no matter how hard we try, we can't give them the most important thing - health and family.
We want to express our deep and sincere gratitude to the management of "Avoska" for their responsiveness and generosity!
For the children of the Shakhtyorsk orphanage - boarding school our friends bought necessary expensive mobile six lamp quarts, 12 lamps to them, household and kitchen appliances. We also thank the Solzhenitsyns family for their help with nebulizers and hygiene products for the children.
