Sofia can't talk because of stitches and a titanium plate that replaces her removed lower jaw. A surgical scalpel with a sharp blade has divided the life of a 14-year-old girl into before and after:
"They removed everything, both her teeth and her jaw from underneath," cries Sonia's mother.
"Just at one moment she had a toothache. Our Lugansk dentists sent us to the maxillofacial department in Donetsk, they took our first biopsy and there were 4 of them. All 4 samples of our biopsy were examined in the laboratory of Dmitriy Rogachev Clinic. The preliminary diagnoses ranged from osteomyelitis to sarcoma. During the time we were waiting for the diagnosis Sophia was rapidly getting worse. We were urgently admitted to the clinic of Dmitrie Rogochev in Moscow. Two weeks ago they performed an operation removing a part of the bone from her foot and implanting it into her jaw. Now she is walking with difficulties, she is limping. We eat only through the tube, there is no other way, the food just pours out through her mouth... We are working with Sonya's psychologist, she saw herself in the mirror after the operation and her psyche failed. We have 2 months to wait for the results of the biopsy, 4 more surgeries and chemotherapy ahead of us...".
Sonya and Elena Sidorov came to Moscow from a small town near Lugansk. More expensive enteral feeding - this is what Sonya needs right now, she just can't chew ordinary food...
We are opening a collection for recovery support and enteral feeding
