Danil's story

"Apparently God wanted me to go through all these trials..." says tearfully in her eyes, Yulia, Danil's mother.

She's still wearing a black kerchief - Julia is in mourning for Danil's dad. He died two weeks after Danil was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

"My heart couldn't take the grief," Julia cried.

"Danil is my long-awaited, long-awaited, late baby. My husband and I have been waiting for so many years and finally God blessed us. My son came into the world healthy and strong. This is exactly how I imagined him! Blond, like an angel. I plunged into the happy cares of motherhood. Finally my life had meaning. I'd never imagined it was possible to love so much... I would give my life for him! I was so happy and I thanked the heavens! But God played a cruel joke on us. In January of this year I suddenly began to notice that Daddy was getting weaker before my eyes. I guess any mom who had been waiting for her child for so long will understand - we rushed to the hospital. The blood test on all indications was bad! We were sent to Donetsk oncohematology department of the Institute of Oncohematology named after Gus. We were sent to Gusak Institute of Oncohematology in Donetsk. The diagnosis literally shook me up. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia. My husband's heart could not bear the misfortune that befell us... He died two weeks later after learning that our little boy had cancer. Danechka was just a baby, he didn't know what was going on. And it was like I was in hell. I had to make funeral arrangements and at the same time prepare for chemotherapy. In those days I thought I was going to lose my mind. Even the sedatives didn't help.

Now we are going through our first treatment protocol. During this time Danil managed to grow hair twice - during the breaks between treatment blocks the hair grows back. Danil does not tolerate the chemotherapy very well - he is naughty, his tummy hurts, there are ulcers in his mouth which bleed all the time! Sometimes Danil asks about Daddy. I tell him that Daddy is our guardian angel now, and from heaven he takes care of us.

I pray every day. I ask the Lord for mercy and to heal my son. But we'll make it! With God's help..."

Mother Julia writes:
"Congratulations to all Orthodox Christians on Holy Trinity! This holiday meant a joyful event for our family: Danil and I were sent home for 2 weeks to rest from treatment and gain strength! I feel that on such a blessed day this is a good sign - our son will cope with cancer!
The first treatment protocol is behind us. My son had a hard time with it: the chemotherapy gave him stomach complications, and there were many ulcers in his mouth. I was very afraid that cramps in my son's tummy would turn out to be a precursor of epilepsy. But during the visit to neurologist the doctor examined Darijek and assured us that it is just consequences of chemotherapy, which will pass in a while.
Now we are at home, we will recover a little and then we will go back to the hospital for the second protocol of treatment... Danil's mood and health is good, he eats with appetite and smiles a lot. He missed his bed and his favorite toys. He missed his life without drips and bitter smell of hospital...
Tomorrow my son will have another test. I believe that God will help and the results will make us happy! Please pray for my son!
Motherly thanks to all of you, good people, for your kind words, prayers and help!

My son is feeling well. When there is no pain, he is in a good mood and has a good appetite. We are waiting for the test results now. He needs them to be back to normal for us to continue treatment. The first step of treatment is passed. I pray that we will survive the second stage well and thank God for the good that people do not leave us. A mother's thanks to each of you!

MOM'S WRITING :
Mama Julia writes:
"Good afternoon to all our helpers! This is how our weekdays in the hospital go! The news is not bad. Yesterday we came home from home to the oncology department after a short break in treatment and rest. We are back with renewed energy for the second protocol, which we started today. In the morning they gave Darja a daily intravenous infusion of methotrexate, which is a high dose chemotherapy.
I pray that my son will pass this difficult and necessary stage. It is hard for Danil to lie in bed all day. He wants to run and swing, like all other kids. We will have daily diapers for the next 3 days, so do you know how long it will take? This is a great stress for the baby, and for the body. And Danil misses Radochka very much! Mira, like my son, is on a daily drip, so they say hi to each other from the neighboring rooms through us, the moms. Danil complains that he really wants to run and play with Rada, and "this little thing on his belly rubs. Please pray for my baby! I believe that God will hear our common prayers!"
